Being committed is essential to bearing fruit

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. – Jesus (Jn.12:24)

Unless we allow time for gestation, for working, meditating, studying out area of giftedness we will not see fruit. A vision for fruit combined with a realism of hard work in one area will bring results. Too many times we start projects and do not see them through to completion.

We must be like a tree planted. Fixed, daily suckling nutrients from Christ. Who is the main attraction, we are the branches stemming from His life, father son and Spirit. Grounded character, which isn’t blown about by any old wind. But stays to it’s call.

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:8

Let’s make this practical. You have 10-12 working hours in a day. Potentially only 4 if your dream is something you work on outside of work. If you were to be an architect you may:

  • study famous architects plans, take notes
  • Watch online seminars on architecture
  • But most importantly create your own designs

Do this every day and you will grow. Some pursuits appear less practical than running or weight lifting. Such as songwriting. But the principle is the same, daily practice. Your songs, sermons, teachings will be the training. You will put out lower quality work until you build up skill. Accept the journey.

Ultimate bearing fruit in our called position is what brings satisfaction, creating personally unique things. Many times I have been working but pulled to relax, watch a series, or just get some food, or check Facebook (which is endless). But it’s meaningless and adds to the tension.

Solomon mused about whether pleasure, foolish laughter and pursuit of personal happiness were fulfilling. No, only setting into the seasons of God’s will for his life would satisfy. Knowing that today has repercussions in eternity. A meaningless 80+ years would bring an eternal reward, worth pursuing. Jesus is the light to light up this path each day. Seek Him.
